How do I Sign Up?
You can sign up by visiting our get started page.
Can I book a consultation directly with an attorney?
Yes! Just sign into your dashboard and select an available appointment time with an attorney.
Are consultations all done on the phone?
Yes, for your convenience, all consultations are handled over the phone.
Can I cancel anytime?

You can cancel your Equal Legal subscription anytime by providing at least 5 days’ notice before the start of your next renewal period. After cancellation, your membership will remain active until the end of the applicable period. To cancel you must login to your member area and click on ‘Unsubscribe’. Following cancellation, you will no longer have access to the member area.

Do I get charged automatically?

Yes, when you sign up for a subscription plan it will recur on the billing cycle selected by you until you cancel.

Is equal legal only available to women business owners?

Our services benefit women business owners, but are also applicable to men, minority and equally owned businesses and we do not exclude any person from subscribing to Equal Legal based on any classification such as gender, race, sexuality, disability, religion, creed or otherwise.

I already paid the subscription, why is attorney asking me for a separate retainer fee?

Equal Legal subscriptions include a number of free and discounted services and access to discounts on standard participating attorney rates. It operates similarly to a roadside assistance service who may pick you up, change your tire and tow you to a mechanic, but if there is additional work to do on your car like replace your battery, you will need to pay those extra costs. Don’t worry – your membership gives you discounts on those additional services too!

Does Equal Legal provide legal advice?

Equal Legal itself does not provide legal advice and Equal Legal is not a law firm. Attorneys are made available through Equal Legal membership who offer free and discounted legal services as third-party independent contractors who agree to provide legal services directly to you, not through Equal Legal, via a separate retention agreement between you and the attorney.

Does Equal Legal provide access to other areas of law?

Equal Legal currently focuses on providing access to legal services for business owners but our attorney providers maybe able to refer you for other matters if necessary.

Is Equal Legal only available in California?

Due to each state having its own regulations governing the practice of law, currently Equal Legal is only available in California for California legal matters. Subscribe to our newsletter to stay informed of developments in other states.

Is Equal Legal an insurance provider?

Equal Legal is not insurance. The Legal Plans offered through Equal Legal are not contracts of insurance or indemnification insurance plans. Equal Legal is not an insurance company and does not guarantee legal representation in every situation. The Legal Plan provides Equal Legal customers with access to free and discounted legal services from Plan Attorneys. Equal Legal does not reimburse or indemnify any plan member or pay any attorneys, plan attorney, or law firms for attorney fees or expenses.

If I subscribe to Equal Legal can I still hire another attorney?

Absolutely. At all times, you have the right to hire and consult another attorney at your own expense.

What if plan attorneys are unable to assist with my legal matter?

At times an attorney may not be able to represent you due to a conflict of interest, or because they feel you would be better represented elsewhere after an evaluation of your matter. If this situation arises, the attorney will explain the reasons to you and refer you to another attorney if appropriate. Please also refer to section 5 of the Service Agreement on Exclusions and Conflicts.

Will a conflict check apply if I retain a plan attorney?

Yes. Equal Legal plan attorneys are subject to the same rules and regulations as all other attorneys practicing within the State of California and representation of you will be subject to a check for conflicts of interest.

What if I am dissatisfied with the conduct of a plan attorney?

You have the right to file a complaint with your state’s bar association concerning the conduct of an affiliated attorney under a legal plan provided by Equal Legal. You may also raise any concerns regarding non-legal, general issues with Equal Legal customer support by using the form below.
